💡 Client Updates can be scary, and our first impulse often is to drop a job with limited or no data availability. However, with a good client update, no question is impossible. Becoming proficient in this method of research and writing also means not dropping earning opportunities. Clients often rate Client Updates five stars. This happens even though we don’t find the exact data they were after. Because we educate them about the context of that data and what is involved in finding it, they still learn a lot.

Requirements
We will explain the requirements for each section in detail below, but the requirements for a client update are simple when you break them down. More details are provided here.
Summary
- In your Summary, let the client know what you DID provide, introduce the helpful findings you have provided, and state that more information on the logic may be found in the Research Strategy.
Creative Solutions
- Share any data limitations. Explain to the client what was not available.
- Share the creative strategy you used to solve the data limitation.
- Tell the client what we have provided instead.
Helpful Findings
- Provide 3-5 helpful findings for the missing parts in a PCU and 5-7 helpful findings for a FCU.
- This does not mean that we need to provide 3-5 helpful findings for every piece of missing information. You will provide 3-5 helpful findings, in total, for each section that has missing information.
Research Strategy
- Explain to the client exactly how you conducted the research process by explaining your three creative strategies.
- Provide a hypothesis as to why the information was not available.
- This is invaluable for the client, and it gives your argument strength.
