Importance of Professional Writing

Why is professional writing important? When we send a brief to a client with spelling mistakes, it not only looks unprofessional but also creates doubt within the client. Even though the rest of the research may be stellar, the client may doubt your research skills and be overly critical because you did not proofread the brief properly.

Professional writing is clear, concise, and seeks to convey information and ideas quickly in a professional setting. Misspelling a word might seem like a minor mistake, but it can reflect poorly on an Analyst. It can suggest that the Analyst does not care enough about his/her work to proofread it and can make a client less likely to trust an Analyst's authority. A few typos are understandable, but writing with widespread errors that affect readability and credibility is considered unprofessional. Remember, our content represents our brand.

Requirements

  1. Make sure you have either:
    1. answered every Request Criteria comprehensively OR
    2. addressed every Request Criteria through a client update.
  2. Spell-check your research and make sure it is easily readable and there are no spelling or grammar errors.
  3. Make sure there are no instances of plagiarism or word flipping.
  4. Make sure the required images are included.
  5. If there is a spreadsheet or other deliverable, make sure you have uploaded it via the Custom Deliverable box.

The best way to ensure that the Research is error-free is to spell-check the work before submitting it. Many Analysts choose to use an external tool to help double-check their work. An example is Grammarly. Such tools only catch some errors, though (and they misidentify errors sometimes as well), so it is important to use them in conjunction with your own awareness of grammar and appropriate phrasing. Another popular technique is to step away from the job for a few minutes, then come back with fresh eyes for a final proofread.

🔥 Comprehensive Report

In collaboration with you, our Analyst Community, we have aligned on the following definition for a “comprehensive” response:

A comprehensive report is logically sound, credible, relevant, quantitative, complete, and error-free. It requires the Analyst to go above and beyond the simplest form of answering the client question. It is concise yet insightful and demonstrates that due diligence was performed in producing the report. A comprehensive report makes our client look good in front of their client (whether an internal client, like a boss, or an external client, like a customer). The goal is for our clients to share and act upon the information we present with confidence because of our ability to reliably deliver valuable information. Here’s how we define a comprehensive report at Wonder:
